Remix(c)ity: A Participatory City-(re)making Game
Remix(c)ity was developed in partnership with Konzulát Studios for the programme of MakeCity 2018 festival in Berlin as a participatory city-making tool in the form of a board-game. Players are taking rounds allocating ‘urban ingredients’ in different areas of the city according to how they perceive the urban mix, e.g., the role of open space, affordable housing or the connection to transport links and public services. Following the allocation of the current ‘urban mix’ players take turns trying to redistribute the urban ingredients around the city by intensifying, compacting, spreading, diversifying – remixing them. In this way, through several iterations, the game is an opportunity to co-produce a participatory understanding of the city, an urban analysis, as well as a shared vision of urban change.
