Update: ZeroCityPlus London Workshop Sunday 19 June
Can playing a game help us raise awareness of the climate crisis, adopt a more sustainable way of life, and create plans and strategies for cities that can regenerate the ecosystems we all depend on? How would this game look like?
Over the last couple of months, in partnership with the University of Reading, we’ve been working towards such a kind of game: ZeroCityPlus, a game for a city that can achieve zero carbon plus generously give back to natural and human wellbeing. Our aim is to design a game that can facilitate the multiple stakeholders of urban development to trace the journey, as citizens, communities, businesses and local government, together, towards net-zero and carbon-negative strategies and action plans.
ZeroCityPlus is one of the 15 Design Exchange Partnerships that have been selected to participate in the inaugural year of Future Observatory, a UK-wide programme coordinated by the Design Museum in partnership with UK Research and Innovation and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Harnessing design research, the programme aims to accelerate solutions for the most pressing societal issues, from achieving net zero to tackling the housing crisis.
As part of our design development, we’ll be running three game pilots, community workshops where we invite local people to join us for a ZeroCityPlus game session and exchange ideas on how we can make the shift to more sustainable places and lifestyles. As a design research project, integral to the game’s development is a test-learn-improve approach: each workshop is a testing and learning moment, an opportunity to exchange ideas and receive community insights and feedback, for the game’s ongoing collaborative development. We invite you to play and shape the game in one of our upcoming workshops in the UK:
Nottingham: Saturday, 26 February 2022.
Reading: Saturday, 26 March 2022.
London: Sunday, 19 June 2022. [ EVENT DETAILS ]
